Radio North Angus is pleased assist with the Lathallan School Rugby Sevens Tournament to be held on Saturday 28 April at Lathallan School, by Johnshaven. The school is again playing host to a rugby sevens tournament played across three categories, namely Primary 7 Under 16, and Under 18. Participating teams will be Aberdeen Grammar, Blairgowrie, Carnoustie, Deeside, Dundee High, Gordonstoun, Perthshire, Robert Gordon’s, and Strathmore.
In attendance will be Ian McLauchlan, President of Scottish Rugby Union, Sir Moir Lockhead, Chairman of Scottish Rugby Union and Alan Lowson (Ex Scottish International) Vice-President of Scottish Rugby. Also current Scottish Internationals will be in attendance.

A barbeque, beer tent, bouncy castle, face painting and other attractions will ensure that the event will be a family fun day. Kick is off at 10.30am, and the event will end at approximately 4.00pm.

The public are warmly encouraged to attend the event to be held in the attractive school grounds. Admission is free.

 

Radio North Angus is delighted to assist with the Friockheim Village Event to be held on Saturday 21 April between 10.00am and 4.00pm at Eastgate School, by providing music and commentary.

Organised by Friockheim and District Community Council Eastgate School Group, the purpose is to allow the public to express views on the proposal that the school building be converted into a community establishment/leisure centre to be utilised by various local groups and organisations.

The event is designed to be fun-filled, with a carnival atmosphere created by various attractions, and representation by local businesses. There will be various stalls, free raffle for a food hamper and vouchers, and free competitions, including a treasure hunt.

Refreshments will be available, and admission is free.

 

The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is being held on Sunday 25th March at 12 noon within the grounds of Monifieth High School with the assistance of Radio North Angus.

The Monifieth Mile is set to be an outstanding event. All the funds raised will help people experiencing unimaginably tough lives locally, across the UK, and in some of the poorest countries.

An Angus Active Schools and Sport Development spokeswoman said: “The Monifieth Mile is set to be an amazing event. It’s fantastic that so many people from Monifieth, Carnoustie, Arbroath, and surrounding areas, are gathering together to show their support for Sport Relief 2012. We want this to be the best Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile yet – so raise your game, enter the Monifieth Mile today and join the rest of the nation to raise plenty of cash for an incredible cause!”

As well as the Sport Relief Mile, there will be stalls and additional activities, such as the discounted swim, face and nail painting, hotshots, speed gates, tombola, and cake and candy. Refreshment stalls will also be on hand. Radio North Angus will be providing entertainment to motivate participants who can choose their own distance, from 1, 3 or 6 miles, and can complete in any way they fancy. From teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters, there’s something for everyone on the big day.

Radio North Angus is grateful to Mrs Georgiana Osborne, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Angus, for recording a Christmas message to our audiences.
The message highlighted events during the year, including the Royal Wedding at which she, and husband, James, were present.
She paid tribute to the citizens of the county, 45 Royal Marine Commando based at Condor, Arbroath, the recipients of the 2011 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and to the organisations and individuals involved in voluntary roles throughout Angus.
The message was broadcast at 1110 hours on Christmas Eve, copies of which can be made available on request.

The Lord Lieutenant of Angus, is the British monarch’s personal representative in an area which was defined by the Lord-Lieutenants (Scotland) Order 1996 consisting of the unitary Angus council area.

The lieutenancy area was previously defined by the Lord Lieutenants (Scotland) Order 1975 as consisting of the Angus district, which was one of three districts of the two-tier Tayside Region created by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and abolished by the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994, which divided the region between the Angus, Dundee City, and Perth and Kinross council areas. Prior to the 1975 order the lieutenancy area was the county of Angus, which was officially the county of Forfar until 1928.

The office was founded in 1794, and has had the following titles:

  • His or Her Majesty’s Lieutenant in the County of Forfar until 1928
  • His or Her Majesty’s Lieutenant in the County of Angus 1928 to 1975
  • Lord Lieutenant of Tayside Region, District of Angus 1975 to 1996
  • Lord Lieutenant of Angus since 1996
